Undertow navigates the uneasy space between what is visible and what remains hidden. The work draws on sensations of breathlessness, chaos, and being pulled beneath the surface by something unseen and unknown.
Across the canvas, a subdued palette of earth and autumnal tones is layered over restless textures and frenetic marks. While the surface appears calm, underlying tensions persist, creating a sense of movement, pressure, and instability. Here, the autumnal palette becomes a quiet reference point throughout the work, evoking transition and change.
Rather than illustrating a specific experience, Undertow inhabits the uncertainty of living within a body that no longer feels familiar. It reflects on the disorienting space between symptom and diagnosis, where understanding remains just out of reach and the effort to maintain composure exists alongside the feeling of being slowly pulled under.
