Dr Bonnie Stevens is a multi-disciplinary artist, academic, and publisher based in Naarm (Melbourne). She completed her Doctorate at RMIT where her practice research focused on telling stories of marginalisation through interdisciplinary arts publishing.
As a visual artist, her abstract works explore her embodied experiences of premature menopause which she experienced in her twenties. Her works frequently feature composed and natural colour palettes which sit in tension with frantic, gestural mark-making.
Her photography and artwork have been shown in various galleries in Brisbane and Melbourne. As a writer, her work has been published for outlets such as SBS, Archer magazine, Astray, and Inside Out magazine. In 2017 she was short-listed for the Queensland Premier’s Young Writers and Publishers Award at the Queensland Literary Awards.
Bonnie was the founding editor of design and culture publication, mous magazine, former Artistic Director of National Young Writer’s Festival, and is currently the director at Hakka Guest House.
